Every now and then there are small moments I spend with my mom shopping for groceries. The markets we go to are always filled with crates and boxes of fruits, vegetables, spices, roots, and various others. The prices and names are handwritten on pieces of cardboard in Chinese characters and sometimes in English. Time after time, I’m still trying to remember all the different herbs and remedies that goes with each ingredient and time after time, I still ask my mom what’s the [insert food here] called in Chinese. It’s moments like this that makes it so precious but also memorable at the same time.
